Writer's Block: Going for the throat

Jun. 28th, 2011 | 07:54 pm

Would you rather be a vampire or a vampire hunter, and why?

What is this question. Seriously.

Vampire. Vampire vampire vampire vampire VAMPIRE.

Even if we're talking Buffy vampires, so then the vampire me wouldn't really be me unless I got cursed with a soul, and at some point after that I'd decide to become a vampire vampire hunter. I'd still rather be a vampire than a Slayer.

Because hunters gonna hunt. Or they're gonna hunt you. If you're a vampire you have more chance to opt out of this whole deal and go live forever doing cool things, like reading every good book ever, watching every good film, wearing tons of beautiful dresses, etc etc. Killing only stupid people like the chainsaw of natural selection.

So what if you might be soulless? There's no proof that souls actually exist, and who needs an immortal soul that may end up in hell when you can try your damned hardest, pun accidental, to live forever?

VAAAAAAAMPIRE

Mr Hardbeck’s super secret stag do, part the second

Mar. 18th, 2011 | 11:30 pm
location: United Kingdom, London
mood: tiredtired

Title: '507.5', or, 'Mr Hardbeck’s Super Secret Stag Do' (part two)
Author: juliannelefay
Word Count: 1882
Fandom: Skins (Gen 3)
Subject/Characters: See title.
Rating/Warnings: Don't know? Includes some swearing, some drinking, some minor references to drugs, nothing more ‘adult’ than that in this section anyway
Spoilers: See title - this takes place after 507
Summary: Did you read the title?
Disclaimer: Obviously I do not own Skins, sorry E4/Company Pictures, give me a job? I'm a year and a half younger than Jamie Brittain and everything!
Notes: So this is how I think the stag night should go. I don't know how much info canon sources (ie. Twitter) will provide on it in future, but I don't care, THIS IS WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN. Come read, play ‘spot the fandom references’, and rock on. Written over only a couple of days. All feedback appreciated.

PS. Like before, I copy-pasted this from Word. So if there are weird things going on in the format, remember, WORD.

Part one is here

Title: 'Mr Hardbeck’s Super Secret Stag Do', or, '507.5'. (part one)
Author: juliannelefay
Word Count: 1109
Fandom: Skins (Gen 3)
Subject/Characters: See title. Well, it starts with Rich, Alo, Matty, and Nick…but to reveal the rest would be spoiling my own story!
Rating/Warnings: Don't know? Includes some swearing, some drinking, nothing more ‘adult’ than that in this section anyway
Spoilers: See title - this takes place after 507

All feedback appreciated, so that part two and part three (not sure how many parts, there may just be an really long part two, part one is a bit short but I wanted to get it posted before the episode) can be better.

OMGWTF

Two facts:

1) I really really really like the current series of Skins which ends this week and I may actually cry or something.

2) I don't do fanfiction. The closest I've come is RPing. I used to play a lot of RPGs, was very active for about four years, then I decided to give it all up, about five years ago now, and not write anything that wasn't my own. That went very well, I got an MA and all. I've never experienced the desire to RP again.

I'd never experienced the desire to write fanfic either. I just, ugh, I don't like the idea of using other people's characters. I don't really know them like I know my own, and what's the point of writing something you don't own the copyright to, etc etc.

Now for Skins, because E4 are doing el grand cheapo promotion this year, they have set up character Twitters, which I don't follow, but I check the bit on the Skins facebook page every couple of days, where they display all the character's most recent tweets.

Anyway, one of the characters said something, and I was like 'I could write that', then I remembered that I don't write fanfiction, other people's characters, ugh, etc.

Brain would not let it go. This morning I wrote 1000+ words. It was pretty easy, my own concern is having the characters stay true to how they are in the programme. I'm concerned that I may have exaggerated them too much in a bit to keep them accurate. I have the whole thing planned out as well, so hopefully this evening I shall work some more on a story that I actually own and then I can proof read part one of this thing and post it and the denizens of skinsfans can see whether I win or fail at fanfiction. I can't see myself doing it again though in a hurry. Maybe in five years!

Writer's Block: Power of expression

If you were given the chance, what one thing would you tell the entire world?

I wouldn't take the chance. What would be the point? They hear it, doesn't mean they're going to listen or believe it. The only people who would like and believe what you said knew it anyway. Everyone else would just think that you're wrong, for whatever reason. To convince people, you'd need a lot more than one thing.

My dirty little secret...

Apr. 5th, 2009 | 01:56 am
mood: tiredtired

I like love time-management games.

I have spent the last few days mostly playing the trials on shockwave.com. Which I have discovered does not dump spyware on your computer like Meez.com does! WIN

Ranch Rush and Farm Frenzy were pretty good. I like the plant/animal related ones the best. They remind me of the Sims Unleashed when you could grow food in the garden. Nanny Mania was the only baby-related one I tried and although it was fun it was too easy and being baby-related it made my soul feel as ill as I anticipated.

I wasted hours on Sara's Super Spa, which gets points for racial and gender diversity in the characters but ultimately fails because it is so repetitive and because it's set in a spa! Zzzzzzzzz...

None of these compared to Cake Mania though. The Cake Manias are awesome and the plots get more batshit as the numbers increase. In Cake Mania 3 she is sucked through a time vortex or some such and bakes cakes for dinosaurs and can bash them over the head with a club to make them forget which cake they wanted and then they accept (and pay for) any cake you make and in that version you can put three cakes on top of each other plus topper and icing which gets you points points points.

I am so ashamed, and have played all the trial versions I can now, so my cravings for time-management games will disappear because they are not fun the third time around. Whee I can get back on with life reading books and watching Gilmore Girls/Community Channel programmes now!

Or at least go to bed as it is 2:10 am.

Writer's Block: Take Your Chances

Do you think people deserve second chances?
It depends.

Situation A: Person is generally regarded (by yourself most importantly) as a knobhead. You expect them to disappoint you/be shit at whatever. They beg you to let them try whatever.

They screw it up.

Then no, they do not deserve a second chance. Really you've already given them one.

B. Person is generally known to be a good person who would not normally mess up.

They screw it up.

They do deserve a second chance.

Of course what they deserve and what you should actually do really depends on the situation as well.

And there are cases where "they" do something so terrible and that is so much their fault and could not have been done by accident that there should be no second chances.

In conclusion, my regular advice: USE YOUR BRAIN. BRAIN IS FOR THINKING.
